Now Prime Minister of India Sri Modi,inaugurated the world’s first dedicated stem cell treatment hospital established by GIOSTAR at Ahmedabad, Gujarat in 2011. GIOSTAR is working on another stem cell treatment hospital project, which will be the largest of its kind in the world, is being constructed in Surat Civil Hospital campus in collaboration with the government of Gujarat envisioned by Prime Minister Modi.

Stem cells are the cells which have all the information of a human body and can change into any organ or cell in a given environment, thus able to repair any organ. For example stem cell can be use to create bone, heart, liver, kidney, skin, blood, muscle, pancreas, nervous system, vessels and therefore, possibilities are unlimited. He said the Gujarat government and GIOSTAR are jointly preparing to treat the large, poor tribal population in the southern part of the state suffering from the devastating disease of Sickle Cell Anemia for generations. It is believed that this disease spread via the travel routes of the Alexander the Great and his army.

Dr. Srivastavawas recently honouredby US Congress with prestigious U.S.A. Congressional Awardfor his extensive contribution in the field of stem cell science. Last November he interacted with world media for his research in making advancements to provide treatments for diseases disregarded as incurable while chairing the World Congress of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell conference in Korea.

Gujarat’s every district will have one medical college, said Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi today speaking at inaugural function of Saviour hospital in Ahmedabad.

The new hospital has come up on Stadium road of Navrangpura in Ahmedabad at an investment of Rs 35 crore. It has come up as a part of the materialization of one of the MOUs during the Vibrant Summit. The hospital is constructed in association with

GIOSTAR Stem Cell Research Institute of America, and will make available the Stem cell transplantation therapy to the people.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Narendra Modi said the Vibrant Summit is becoming instrumental in bringing the best of education and medical world to the state which is the real outcome of the Summit, apart from the investment it fetches to the industries sector.

He said the government has set up 15 new medical colleges and about 2115 seats in medical courses during last one decade. In 2001, there were only two medical colleges and 500 seats but now it has increased by many-fold, he said.

The Chief Minister said stem cell therapy was even present in India’s Vedic science tradition. He said world’s oldest plastic surgery was done on Shri Ganeshaji by placing human head on elephant’s body.

 

Chief Minister informed the state government has signed MOU with GIOSTAR, USA, and has set up a special organization with a view to free the tribal people of Gujarat from the genetical diseases like Sickle cell and Anemia.

Health Minister Mr. Jaynarayan Vyas said the state government is developing the medical services sector on PPP model. He expressed

happiness that stem cell therapy is becoming available in Gujarat as an is outcome of MOU during Vibrant Summit.

Globally acclaimed stem cell physician and the Director of GIOSTAR Dr.IVA said the vibrancy of Gujarat has become a source of attraction for the investors of all over the world. With the availability of stem cell treatment in Gujarat, a new chapter of success has been added to the all-round growth story of the State, she said.

The Gujarat government will set up a separateagency to control sickle cell anaemia (SCA), a rare genetic disorder prevalent largely in tribal belts in the state, the state assembly was informed today. “Sickle Cell Anaemia Control Society will be set up which shall be dedicated towards combating this disease,” Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas said. The US-based Global Institute of Stem Cell Therapy and Research (GIOSTAR) has inked an MoU with the Gujarat government for establishing a stem cell centre at Civil Hospital in Surat to offer modern day treatment for the disease, he told the House.

SCA is a congenital illness, where blood cells get de-shaped leading to
anaemia amongst patients and deposition of iron in organs, thus adversely
impacting the general system.

Around 1,334 people have tested positive for SCA in Gujarat.

Gandhinagar, Mar 18 (PTI) The Gujarat government will set up a separate agency to control sickle cell anaemia (SCA), a rare genetic disorder prevalent largely in tribal belts in the state, the state assembly was informed today. “Sickle Cell Anaemia Control Society will be set up which shall be dedicated towards combating this disease,” Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas said. The US-based Global Institute of Stem Cell Therapy and Research (GIOSTAR) has inked an MoU with the Gujarat government for establishing a stem cell centre at Civil Hospital in Surat to offer modern day treatment for the disease, he told the House. SCA is a congenital illness, where blood cells get de-shaped leading to anaemia amongst patients and deposition of iron in organs, thus adversely impacting the general system. Around 1,334 people have tested positive for SCA in Gujarat. Traces of this rare genetic disorder were found amongst 7,964 persons out of the 73,230 screened during 2010-11, Vyas said. Those affected were largely found in tribal belts of districts like Valsad, Dang, Navsari, Tapi, Surat, Vadodara, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Godhra, Dahod and Narmada, he said. During a survey, traces of the disease were found amongst 10-14 per cent of the population residing in tribal belts of these districts, the Minister said. Of the 13,67,953 people screened in 64,00,000 tribal pockets so far, 10,475 have tested positive for SCA, while 1,62,706 showed traces of it, he told the Lower House.
